Nevertheless, they were defined as replacements for the new standards.

What is behind the topic of undated (floating) reference (based on DIN 820-2:2022)?

If a standard is referenced in a technical drawing, there is usually no issue date in the standard reference. This means that the version of the standard that was valid at the time the drawing was created automatically applies. If the standard number changes later, it becomes more difficult to clearly identify the version that was valid at that time. Therefore, if the edition of a particular standard is to be specified, the date must appear after the standard number.

Undated standard specification for ISO 22081

This is important, for example, when specifying general tolerances: ISO 2768-2, which is entered in capital letters after the standard on the drawing (e.g. ISO 2768-mK), was withdrawn in 2021 and replaced by ISO 22081. So if there is no date for this specification, then when ISO 2768-2 has been entered since 2021 or DIN ISO 2768-2 since 2022, reference is automatically made to DIN EN ISO/ISO 22081. The critical point here is that this standard requires explicit tolerance specifications in the drawing. These are missing if ISO 2768-mK is specified. As a result, no general tolerance values for shape and position are specified and considerable misunderstandings are inevitable.

Misinterpretations, customer-supplier disputes and other aspects can result from this, leading to both legal disputes and monetary losses for companies.

With the replacement of ISO 2768-2 and ISO 1302, for example, the issue of specifying standard numbers without a date on drawings has been emphasised even more.
